The pool data

#

Pools come from a few places. Some past pools come from the public export of otdb, by Sheppsu, used with his permission, and their pages link the pool there. The rest come from tournament hosts and community members, and an admin checks those by hand before they appear. Each pool page names its sources, and Data says more. A pool page can link the forum post, sheet or site its hosts or sender gave us: those are their pages, not ours.

A pool is only as right as its source. We read a pool's tournament, round and year from its name, so some are wrong, and about two in three pools from otdb have no year. Admins fix what they find.

Searching all osu! maps

#

Searching all osu! maps asks the hinai mirror, which reads only map details (never files). We leave out sets the content rules don't allow in officially supported tournaments and mark the ones to check first, but the rules can be wrong and the osu! Tournament Committee decides. Graveyard and pending maps can change or disappear after you pool them.

Star ratings

#

A pool's slots show each map's star rating, AR, OD, BPM and length under the slot's mods. Star ratings with mods come from the hinai mirror's precomputed values and can differ slightly from osu!'s. NM, FM and TB slots show the rating without mods, and a map the mirror has no mod data for shows its rating without mods, marked "no mod data". Search results for maps played in pools, and the all-maps search, show ratings without mods. A pool's star range uses these ratings, so it can differ from the range packs shows for the same pool.

Similar maps are a guide. A pattern match comes from the embeddings BoBERT (by token03) publishes, which compare hit objects and leave out AR, OD and CS; a difficulty match only compares numbers. Neither says a map fits your pool.

The compliance check

#

The check reads each beatmapset's details from the osu! API and applies the content rules for officially supported tournaments, as the osu! Mappool Compliance project writes them. Its results are guidance, not rulings: the osu! Tournament Committee decides. A map the check couldn't read is marked as such, never passed.

How our requests identify themselves

#

Our server sends pools.haruhime.moe (+https://pools.haruhime.moe; haruhime@haruhime.moe) as its User-Agent on every request it makes: to the osu! API (for the check, and to look up a pool editor by username, with pools' own osu! app), to the hinai mirror (when someone searches all osu! maps, for star ratings and map values with mods when someone browses maps or opens a pool, for map details when someone asks for similar maps, and for map details when an admin runs an import or adds a pool, or when someone adds maps pools hadn't seen to a pool they build), to otdb (when an admin runs an import), and to packs.haruhime.moe (to keep each pool's pack up to date, and to remove a pack when its pool goes private or is deleted, trying again later when packs doesn't answer), and to haruhime.moe (to end your session there when you sign out on pools).
